The ultimate Cornish bucket list for families

There are some things that you simply HAVE to experience while on holiday in Cornwall. Our bucket list maxes out on Cornishness, packs in the fun and is for the whole family.

Tick off the must-do’s below and you’ll go from coast to coast, from land to sea and from action-filled to super chilled.

Visit the Eden Project

Pulling in over one million visitors every year, the Eden Project is one of the top attractions in the UK let alone Cornwall. Kids absolutely love it. Whether they’re scaling the dizzy heights of the Canopy Walkway high up in the Rainforest Biome, following trails through its Mediterranean neighbour, or braving England’s longest and fastest zip wire, there’s a crazy amount for kids to do here. You may even have to visit twice!

Catch and cook your own supper

You could feast on the freshest of Cornish seafood in one of our many fabulous restaurants but it tastes all the more amazing if you’ve caught it and cooked it yourself. Join a fishing trip from Mevagissey harbour just down the road from us and bring your bounty back to shore to crisp up over the BBQ. The kids will love getting hands-on and it’s a great way to sneakily introduce them to new flavours. Pure deliciousness!

Have a watersports lesson

With over 300 beaches and two dramatic coasts, there's nowhere better than to learn to Kayak, Surf or Sail than in Cornwall. Come on in and get a taste for the local’s obsession with the water. What's more, you don't need to look hard as there's an expert watersports centre directly on the beach at Pentewan Sands. Cornwall Watersports have a wide range of equipment and excellent tuition to get you playing around in the water in no time at all. Seasonal opening times may operate.

Watch the sunset

Here in Cornwall, we like to soak up every last drop of the day so watching the sunset is a big part of our outdoor lifestyle. Grab a blanket and cuddle up with the family amongst the sand dunes to see the sun and horizon come together in a spectacular display of colour. In the summer the chance to stay up late will be a real treat for children while the pre-bedtime calm is always a winner with grown-ups. The perfect end to the day.

Experience theatre under the stars

The Minack Theatre in the far-flung west is one of Cornwall’s gems. It’s unique, it’s spectacular and it’s an experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime. Handcrafted into the cliff tops overlooking the beautiful panorama of Porthcurno, it’s a match made in heaven between theatre and the great outdoors.

If you’ve got little ones, visit for a matinee performance (you may be joined by dolphins in the bay!) or for families with older children a dusk performance under the twinkling stars is hard to beat. This year’s line-up includes The Railway Children and Doctor Doolittle, it’s going to be special!

Walk in King Arthur’s footsteps

Fire up young minds by taking them to Tintagel Castle which is entwined with the legend of King Arthur. Cross the bridge to a headland shaped by time, explore the castle remains and build sand castles in Merlin’s Cave. This is where history comes to life and learning gets epic.

Have a marine wildlife adventure

Discover Cornwall’s incredible marine wildlife aboard a boat trip with our very own Cornwall Watersports. From Mevagissey Bay you’ll glide along the coast spotting the likes of dolphins, basking sharks and the local sea lions and as for the boat trip itself aboard a 28ft RIB? Well, let’s just say you’ll have the ride of your life!

Visit St Michael’s Mount

Another Cornish icon is the magnificent St Michael’s Mount which rises majestically from the bay in west Cornwall. Explore the castle on the island, hear the tale of Giant Cormoran and race the tide back along the causeway to Marazion beach.
