The Hilly Hundred

By Pentewan Sands on the March 10th, 2015 in

100 miles. 100 Cyclists. 100s of hills. One Mission. THE HILLY HUNDRED.

Pentewan Sands Holiday Park is really pleased to be supporting this year’s Hilly Hundred which will take place on 23 - 24 May 2015. Now in its 6th year, The Hilly Hundred (formerly Bikin’ for Boobies) begins at Pentewan Sands and combines adventure, one hundred miles of stunning Cornwall landscape, the occasional hill climb and lots of passionate people on a mission to ensure breast cancer is caught early.

The event, which has previously been completed by the likes of Denise Lewis, is the brain child of breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!. Set up 6 years ago by Kris Hallenga following her diagnosis of secondary breast cancer when she was just 23. It has become her mission to ensure that people start the healthy habit of checking their boobs from a younger age and that all breast cancers are found at the earliest, most treatable stage possible. Kris said: “We like to be cheeky with our fundraising; The Hilly Hundred is a great way for us to raise awareness in a thought provoking way as well as raise much needed funds. We want our campaigns to be fun and memorable and the more people we get on board to support, the better!” The challenge, which starts and finishes at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park, not only takes in this county’s breathtaking scenery, cyclists will also cover heights equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis, twice. Fortunately, this non-competitive cycling adventure is not a race and participants have two days to complete the challenge.

The highlight of the event comes on day two, when participants get to ride around the Rainforest Biome at the Eden Project…wearing fancy dress.

As part of the £47 sign up fee, cyclists can look forward to a massage from local sport masseuses at St Austell college, a meal at the Seahorse Club, a limited edition tshirt and a pasty! To sign up, head to coppafeel.org/hillyhundred2015

About CoppaFeel!: CoppaFeel! aims to stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer by ensuring that people know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, know what their boobs look and feel like normally, check their boobs regularly throughout their lifetime and have the confidence to seek medical referral when they detect abnormalities. Currently 5% of diagnosed cases are already at stage IV with breast cancer being the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women under 39 years in the UK. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on voluntary donations.

About Kris: After being diagnosed at the age of 23, Kristin decided it was time to flip the switch on breast cancer awareness and bring it to the forefront of young people’s attention. One in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease at some stage in their life. CoppaFeel! is all about getting the message out that the sooner we get feeling, the sooner we become best chums with our boobies and the sooner we will spot any changes. About The Hilly Hundred: Join breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! and their team of cyclists as they embark on a 100-mile hilly adventure of Cornwall in May. Starting from Pentewan Sands, the ride takes place over 2 days, including a cycle around the iconic Eden Project, along breathtaking coastal roads, through beautiful fishing harbours and the moors! This ride is open to active people aged 16+ who love a cycling adventure, exploring this beautiful county and supporting an important cause.
