Top tips for beating the rain
We’re not going to lie, the sun doesn’t always shine in Cornwall, and sometimes, just sometimes, it rains. But frankly, who cares? A few rain drops shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your holiday. Whatever the time of the year, there’s always a way to beat the weather…
Make it part of the fun
Get up and get out in that drizzle (or mizzle as we say in Cornwall) and head to the beach. Skip or stroll along the soft sand and just breathe in that glorious fresh sea air. And if you find yourself huddled behind a windbreak, hood up and unwrapping a fresh-from-the-bakery pasty, well, you’re half way to becoming a local!
Get wetter
Cornwall is renowned for its watersports and it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is, what the weather is doing or how good you are, all you have to do is put on a wetsuit and hook up with an expert instructor to learn the ropes. The ocean mad team at Cornwall Watersports are our beachside partners and are based right here in Pentewan offering everything from surfing and stand-up paddle boarding to sailing and windsurfing.
Take it indoors
The kids won’t care if it’s a bit wet outside when they’ve got our awesome entertainment zone, The Seahorse to keep them busy. There’s a pick of indoor swimming pools (one with a play pool and flume for children), amusement arcade and soft play area, plus it serves up the most amazing panoramic view across Mevagissey Bay – even when it is framed by grey clouds and drizzle!
Attraction time
Stay dry at the super family–friendly National Maritime Museum in Falmouth and discover all about Cornwall’s deep sea heritage. At the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay come face to face with a real-life shark and for something a little steamier, go along to the Eden Project to warm up in the tropical Biome. As you wander the steamy paths it won’t be long before you’ll forget its really chilly outside.
Eat, eat and eat some more
There’s no better excuse for a spot of culinary over-indulgence than the weather. Take sanctuary from what we like to call ‘liquid sunshine’ in the comfort of a cosy café or super cool beachside hangout. The Hubbox with its legendary burgers is right on our doorstep and will treat you to a ringside view of the waves crashing on Pentewan beach, or try a slice of homemade cake in the Kitchen café at the Lost Gardens of Heligan – with any luck by the time you’ve finished the sun will be out and you’ll be in the perfect position for a stomp through the gardens.
