Top picnic spots in Cornwall

Beautiful beaches, scenic cliff-tops, atmospheric woodland – Cornwall’s got the alfresco dining spot if you’ve got the taste for adventure. Here’s our pick of the best places to shake out your picnic blanket in Cornwall…

Within 30 minutes from our Holiday Park

Kings Wood

Stretching out for over 140 acres, you’ll be spoilt for choice of picnic spots at the medieval Kings Wood. Part of an ancient panoramic wooded terrain that slopes down the beautiful Pentewan Valley, it’s looked after by the Woodland Trust and with its big views and teaming bird life is a little piece of heaven. Visit in the spring and you’ll be picnicking amongst a striking carpet of bluebells - beautiful!

Prideaux Wood

Throw down your picnic blanket at Prideaux Wood near St Blazey and you’ll be feasting alongside historic relics from Cornwall’s mining heyday, ancient woodland and magnificent towering trees. A designated nature reserve, it’s managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and is home to a vast array of birds who will happily serenade you as you tuck into your sandwiches.

Pendower Beach

At Pendower beach on the achingly beautiful Roseland Peninsula you get two for the price of one as at low tide it connects to Carne beach making for some glorious pre- or post-picnic stomping ground. There’s plenty of room to spread out your tasty treats on the mile-long beach or if there’s a nip in the air hunker down amongst the sand dunes and enjoy the view with a flask of something cosy.

Hemmick Beach

If you fancy yourself as a member of the Famous Five, Hemmick beach is the place to head. Managed by the National Trust, it’s a bit of an adventure to get to but that’s what make it such a great picnic spot. Explore the tiny coves then sit down to a traditional Enid Blyton spread of ham sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, fruit cake and lashings of ginger beer. Just like Dick or Anne, we bet you won’t be able to resist muttering that food always tastes better outdoors!

Slightly further afield and worth going the distance...

Kynance Cove, The Lizard

Kynance Cove with its fine yellow sand, clear water and dramatic cliffs deserves a full-blown hamper, bubbly and cucumber sandwiches affair. It’s the kind of place where you can live out those perfect as-seen-on-screen moments and create some serious Instagram envy. Pick a spot on the beach or opt for a clifftop view, whichever you choose we know you won’t be disappointed.

Bodmin Moor

If you’re all about keeping it real, the atmospheric Bodmin Moor with its wild beauty and moody character will hit the spot. Work up an appetite by climbing to the summit of Rough Tor (the second highest point in Cornwall) or walking towards vast and open awe-inspiring views and reward yourself with a hearty picnic packed full of Cornish goodness. Pack some scones and clotted cream for the ultimate outdoor indulgence!
